Siao Yu (René Liu) follows her boyfriend Giang Wei (TUO Tsung-hua) to New York, where she works in a Chinatown garment factory, frequently evading immigration raids. To obtain a green card, Giang Wei arranges a sham marriage between her and Mario (Daniel J. TRAVANTI), an elderly Italian American man. Siao Yu is forced to move into Mario’s apartment to satisfy immigration authorities, but the unexpected return of Mario’s ex-wife, Rita (Marj DUSAY), threatens to expose their arrangement. Giang Wei grows resentful of the tenderness Siao Yu shows Mario and lashes out at her, while Siao Yu struggles to voice her feelings about Giang Wei’s nights away from home. When her green card is finally approved, will Siao Yu find the courage to make a choice of her own?
